SIOG National Representatives

The International Society of Geriatric Oncology (SIOG) counts its National l Representatives (NRs) as one of the main active and strategic bodies of SIOG. SIOG NRs play an important role in linking SIOG’s core with members, institutions and experts around the globe.

As SIOG spokespersons in their respective countries, our National and Regional Representatives act as ambassadors of SIOG's mission, sharing the same values and pursuing the same objectives, in the joint effort to promote progress and innovation in geriatric oncology.

Why become a National Representative (NR)?

SIOG’s approach is rooted in the highest level of ethics of collaboration and partnership. Recognizing the importance of national contexts and priorities, SIOG aligns its activities to national capacities and resources as well as national medical and clinical practices.

In the recent report on aging and health, the World Health Organisation has called for action on ‘population aging’. This engagement needs to be contextualised with the societal frameworks relevant to each country. Lobbying for more visibility of geriatric oncology as a specialty and encouraging cooperation between geriatricians and oncologists, as well as with other disciplines, are of utmost importance.

SIOG NRs are key actors in raising awareness to improvements made in their country taking specificities of each health system into account. Establishing close collaboration with health authorities and developing concrete measures for a better recognition of cancer care in the elderly through the strengthening of human resources for health (HRH) are achievable goals.

The NRs work closely with the SIOG head office to handle various topics of importance at the local and international level. The members of the SIOG NR play a critical role in ensuring that the national priorities are respected, that SIOG’s activities stimulates human resource development with the respective national contexts.

With guidance from the member of the SIOG NR on the design, facilitations and evaluation of its activities and impact, SIOG ensures an integrative approach in the implementation of its activities worldwide.
