Dr Athanasios Karampeazis is Director of the Medical Oncology Unit at the NIMTS (Veterans Hospital) in Athens. He obtained his medical degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1998 and he completed his training in medical oncology at the University of Crete in 2008. During his training he spent 6 months at the Senior Adult Oncology Program at Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL with Dr Balducci and Dr Extermann. As a Consultant, he worked at Hammersmith Hospital in London form 2015 to 2017 in the GI oncology department. He is actively involved in clinical research in geriatric oncology and has published in a number of peer-reviewed journals. He completed his PhD at the University of Crete in 2017 on the role of comprehensive geriatric assessment in elderly NSCLC patients receiving chemotherapy. He has been a SIOG member since 2007 and he participated in the EORTC Elderly Task Force. As a board member of the Hellenic Society of Geriatric Oncology he enforced oncogeriatrics in Greece by presenting in numerous national meetings and in medical oncology fellows’ educational seminars.
