How to get to Ghent ?

The city of Ghent does not have an airport, but it is very well connected to Brussels by train. International travellers can also fly to Paris or Amsterdam and then take a train to Ghent. Below are some tips for reaching the city.

  • Arriving from Brussels-Airport-Zaventem (BRU): take the train to Gent-Sint-Pieters. Once there, the venue is reachable by foot. Find out how to get from the Airport to the Train station here. It is a 45-min train ride, without any train changes
  • Arriving from Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL): take the train to Bruxelles-Midi and from there you can take a train to Gent-Sint-Pieters
  • Ghent has two railway stations: Gent-Sint-Pieters and Gent-Dampoort
    • From London: Less than 3 hours. Take the Eurostar from London St Pancras to Bruxelles-Midi, then transfer to a train to Gent-Sint-Pieters
    • From Paris: Approximately 2.5 hours. Take the Thalys or TGV from Paris Gare du Nord to Bruxelles-Midi, then connect to Gent-Sint-Pieters
    • From Cologne: Around 2.5 – 3 hours. Take an ICE to Bruxelles-Nord, followed by a train to Gent-Sint-Pieters
    • From Amsterdam: Roughly 3 hours. Take an Intercity or Thalys train from Amsterdam Centraal to Bruxelles-Midi, then connect to Gent-Sint-Pieters

    Don’t hesitate to check train connections from your city to Ghent!

  • It’s a 1-hour drive from Bruxelles, Bruges, and Antwerp
  • There is a low emission zone in Ghent, make sure to check the regulations before coming to the city to avoid fines

The shuttle bus is also an easy way to reach Ghent. It runs about ten times back and forth daily between Brussels Airport and the Gent-Sint-Pieters Railway Station. There, you can take tram line 1 or 3 to the historic centre or walk 10 minutes to the conference centre.

Getting around in Ghent

Ghent’s public transport is well organised, with a wide network of trams and buses. The buses and trams in Ghent will take you to where you want to go from early in the morning until late in the evening.

The Gent ICC is located 10 minutes walking distance from the main train station Sint-Pieters. To reach the historic city centre, you can either walk to Sint-Pieters station and take the tram to the city centre or take one of the bus lines (bus stop Ledeganckstraat 2 min from the entrance of the conference centre).

The public transport provider is called “De Lijn”. Contactless payment on the De Lijn buses and trams is possible with your debit card, smartphone or smartwatch. You just have to hold your card or device in front of the white terminal. Tickets are valid for 1 hour on all busses and tram lines.
