Maya Abdallah

Maya Abdallah, MD, is a geriatric hematologist and clinician-researcher at Boston University and Boston Medical Center, triple board-certified in hematology, oncology, and geriatrics. She focuses on improving outcomes for older adults with blood cancers, especially those from underserved and historically excluded communities. Her clinical and research work integrates geriatric assessments into hematology care to guide treatment decisions, improve supportive care, and tailor treatment for older patients, particularly those receiving intensive therapies like stem cell transplantation, bispecific antibodies, or chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy. Her research aims to implement these assessments in diverse, resource-limited settings and address barriers faced by underserved patients.
She holds leadership roles in the Young SIOG Governance Team; the Cancer and Aging Research Group (Member, Clinical Implementation Core; Member, Junior Board); the American Society of Hematology (Current Co-Chair, International Medical Graduates Working Group; Past Chair, Trainee Council; Member, Subcommittee on Dissemination and Implementation Science); the American Society of Clinical Oncology (Chair, Geriatric Oncology Committee on Practice; Member, Trainee and Early Career Advisory Group); and the American Geriatrics Society (Chair, Cancer and Aging Special Interest Group).
Dr. Abdallah is committed to advancing equity and innovation in geriatric oncology. Her long-term goal is to become an independently funded principal investigator leading a geriatric hematology and oncology research program focused on improving uptake of guideline-recommended geriatric assessments in resource-limited settings and eliminating disparities for underserved populations
