NAHS member spotlight – Q1 2025
Priscilla Yeye Adumoah Attafuah
Priscilla Yeye Adumoah Attafuah is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana. She completed her Basic and Secondary education in Ghana at the Tema Parents Association School and Wesley Girls’ High School, respectively. She proceeded to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana, to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She continued to the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, for a master’s degree in advanced nursing (2011). She returned to Ghana and was employed as a Lecturer at the Valley View University, Oyibi, from 2013 till 2019, when she received an appointment from the University of Ghana, Legon as an Assistant Lecturer. A position she held till she was redesignated to the Lecturer status in February 2024 and promoted in December 2024 to the rank of Senior Lecturer.
In 2022, Priscilla was selected to visit Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada as part of the Queen Elizabeth Scholars – West Africa program. She engaged in research activities at the Queen’s International Centre for the Advancement of Community-Based Rehabilitation from July to August 2023. She is a QEScholar. In December 2023, she completed her PhD in Nursing at the University of Maastricht. She has a great interest in ageing, caring for older adults, and improving the lives of the older population in Ghana. Her research areas are ageing studies, palliative care nursing, end-of-life care, nursing students’ clinical skills, and e-health.
Dr. Attafuah has contributed to research in geriatric care, public health, nursing, and the well-being of vulnerable populations. Her work emphasises the importance of quality care for older adults and the need to provide policies that favour them irrespective of where they find themselves.
In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Attafuah is the Executive Director of Geriatric Hub and has been involved in various community and healthcare initiatives. She visits older adults in their homes and healthcare facilities to provide health education and companionship. She is also interested in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to geriatric health and well-being. Priscilla is a member of SIOG and is collaborating with other researchers to improve Cancer Navigation among older persons.
