In collaboration with its partners, SIOG, organises annual educational courses in geriatric oncology as well as other topics within the educational framework of national trainings institutions for health workforce development.
SIOG Advanced Course in Geriatric Oncology
This course focuses on training of health professionals in the management of elderly cancer patients, providing specific skills in assessment, care pathways and therapeutic choices about the elderly patients with cancer. The focus of the course is to develop the general principles of both geriatric and oncology medicine that are useful to treat elderly cancer patients. In 2021, two courses were organised: one in Canberra, Australia on January 12-14 and one in Treviso, Italy on December 15-18.

The Treviso SIOG Advanced Course in Geriatric Oncology is designed for professionals who want to stay at the peak of their expertise. The course is a CME accredited training programme lead by international experts in the field of geriatrics and oncology designed to provide specific skills in assessment, care pathways and therapeutic choices for older patients with cancer. This 2-phase advanced course covers the general principles of cancer treament using case-based discussions in geriatrics for clinical oncologists as well as in clinical oncology for geriatricians.

The Canberra SIOG Advanced Course in Geriatric Oncology focuses on a multi-disciplinary training of experts for the treatment of older cancer patients. In an effort to stimulate learning and interaction, the course covers general principles of cancer treatment using case-based discussions and debates. The course format encourages student-faculty interactions. The lectures cover themes in geriatrics for clinical oncologists as well as in clinical oncology for geriatricians, including direct patient care modules for nurses and allied health professionals.
