Biographical Info
Ishwaria Subbiah, MD, is a medical oncologist and palliative care physician and joined Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI) & the US Oncology Network in 2023. At SCRI, Dr. Subbiah serves as the Executive Director, Cancer Care Equity and Professional Wellness, building system-level enhancements to make clinical trials accessible to all patients with cancer, particularly communities historically underrepresented on clinical trials. In her complementary role within the US Oncology Network, Dr. Subbiah partners with key teams to enhance symptom management services, clinical research education, and health equity initiatives as well as leading the development of our oncology professional wellbeing program. Dr. Subbiah is globally recognized for her work in geriatric oncology, symptom management, palliative care, and healthcare professional well-being. She serves on ASCO’s Supportive Care Guidelines panel and is the past-chair of ASCO’s State of Cancer Care in America program as well the ASCO Women in Oncology Working Group and the Social Media Working Group. Prior to joining SCRI in 2023, she previously was an associate professor in the Division of Cancer Medicine at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. With her unique qualifications from having trained in Developmental Therapeutics, Medical Oncology, and Palliative Medicine, Dr. Subbiah has more than a decade of experience leading teams in developing and implementing organization-wide programs to improve cancer care and clinical workplace experience, including leading their integration of patient reported outcomes-based remote symptom monitoring. Her ardent patient-level and institutional efforts as well as national/international advocacy reflect her commitment to develop the model of oncologic care that integrates both cutting edge anti-cancer therapies and comprehensive holistic supportive care to deliver a cancer treatment experience in line with the values of each patient and their family.
