The SIOG 2022 Annual Conference took place in Geneva, Switzerland from October 28 to 30. SIOG conveys its special thanks to the scientific committee, the organising committee, the participants, speakers and also partners and sponsors for contributing to a very successful outcome. Last and not least, the high quality of the discussions and presentations show that the research of our delegates are getting translated into the clinic.

Highlights from the conference:

  • 20 scientific sessions and 1 workshop with a total of 60 talks 13 oral abstract presentations

The SIOG 2022 Annual Conference, Geneva, Switzerland, 28/10/2022-30/10/2022 has been granted 13 European CME credits (ECMEC®s) by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®).

Accreditation Statement
Accreditation by the EACCME® confers the right to place the following statement in all communication materials including the event website, the event programme and the certificate of attendance. The following statements must be used without revision:

“The SIOG 2022 Annual Conference, Geneva, Switzerland, 28/10/2022-30/10/2022 has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with 13 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.”

“Through an agreement between the Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes and the American Medical Association, physicians may convert EACCME® credits to an equivalent number of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Information on the process to convert EACCME® credit to AMA credit can be found at www.ama-assn.org/education/earn-credit-participation-international-activities.

“Live educational activities, occurring outside of Canada, recognised by the UEMS-EACCME® for ECMEC®s are deemed to be Accredited Group Learning Activities (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.”

EACCME® credits
Each participant can only receive the number of credits he/she is entitled to according to his/her actual participation at the event once he/she has completed the feedback form. Cf. criteria 9 and 23 of UEMS 2016.20.

The SIOG 2022 Nursing & Allied Health Investigator Award: Ms Joey Chien (SG) – A Pilot Study on the Use of Goal Attainment Scale (GAS) for Pharmacy Medication Reviews in the Geriatric Oncology Clinic.

The SIOG 2022 Young Investigator Award: Dr Sophie Pilleron (GB) – Age-related disparities in relative survival for 10 common cancer types in the US

The Arti Hurria Journal of Geriatric Oncology Annual Award:

  1. Dr Melisa Wong (US) – “You have to be sure that the patient has the full picture”: Adaptation of the Best Case/Worst Case communication tool for geriatric oncology.
  2. Dr Ryan Nipp (US) – Effects of a perioperative geriatric intervention for older adults with Cancer: A randomized clinical trial.
