YSIOG member spotlight – Q2 2025
Pauline Duquenne

I am a medical oncologist at the Older Adults with Cancer Multidisciplinary Care Unit at Fundación Jiménez Díaz in Madrid, Spain. I serve as a bridge between oncology and geriatrics to ensure a comprehensive and personalized approach for older adults with cancer.
My name is Pauline Duquenne, I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Ageing, Cancer and Disparities (ACADI) research unit at the Luxembourg Institute of Health, led by Dr. Sophie Pilleron. I have a background in statistics and hold a PhD in epidemiology and public health, obtained in France. I joined the team in January 2025 and am currently in the early stages of discovering the field of geriatric oncology. I am excited to contribute to research in this important and growing area.
Since joining the ACADI team, I have participated in several literature reviews on a variety of topics, including treatment strategies, sleep, bibliometric analyses and mortality prediction models. In particular, I have taken over a systematic review on mortality risk prediction models in older adults with cancer, which was initiated prior to my arrival by Sophie, in collaboration with members of YSIOG and the SIOG NAHS group. My main research interests focus on the prediction of mortality and adverse outcomes in older adults with cancer. The team is also working on identifying and compiling data sources on older adults with cancer to make them accessible for researchers looking for relevant datasets.
The ACADI team is multidisciplinary, from nursing and health psychology to epidemiology and biostatistics. This diversity fosters effective brainstorming and collaborative idea generation. Currently, I am developing a project aiming at predicting the risk of chemotherapy-related toxicities under different treatment scenarios. This would involve combining prediction modeling with causal inference methods. I was pleased to engage with clinicians from YSIOG to discuss and refine this idea, helping to ensure its relevance and usefulness in clinical practice – for both clinicians and patients.
My work is entirely focused on caring for older adults with cancer. Together with geriatrician Dr. Myriam Rodríguez Couso, we run a joint geriatric-oncology consultation where we see patients together, aiming to adjust both oncologic and non-oncologic treatments for older adults with lung cancer.
