Her research focuses on individualizing breast cancer treatment in older women. In 2015, she completed her PhD Cum Laude (with honors) at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). With her research, she has won several awards, and she has recently received a large research grant of the Dutch Cancer Foundation. Currently, she is working as a resident in internal medicine and as a postdoc in Geriatric Oncology at the LUMC. In 2013, Nienke coinitiated the Young SIOG working group, of which she is now chair.
