Dr Fabio Gomes is a Consultant Medical Oncologist and the Director of the Senior Adult Oncology service at The Christie Hospital in Manchester (UK) which was launched in 2022. He is also actively involved in SIOG for many years, being currently the chair of the Young SIOG interest group. He completed his training and MD in Lisbon (Portugal) and due to his interest in geriatric oncology he enrolled the Academic Visitor & Scholars Program at the Moffitt Cancer Center, Florida, USA in 2015 under the guidance of Dr Martine Extermann and Dr Lodovico Balducci. Since 2016 he has been working in Manchester (UK) mainly in the field of lung cancer, where he achieved a MRes degree and has led several studies focused on older patients, particularly on immunotherapy in this patient group. He also led the implementation of frailty assessments within standard of care at this cancer centre and is now leading the implementation of the first Senior Adult Oncology Unit in the north of England.
