The aims are to develop the general principles of both geriatric and oncology medicine that are useful to treat elderly cancer patient. The oncological sessions will be focused on the principles of cancer treatment in the elderly\, the geriatric ones will be focused on the assessment of the elderly patient\, with particular emphasis about polypharmacy\, multimorbidity and frailty. In a scenario where the “Target and Tailored Therapy” is the gold standard\, the collaboration with international experts in the field of geriatrics and oncology allows students to take part of a training program designed to provide the basis of the assessment and the multi-dimensional approach that should be applied to elderly cancer patients. Thanks to the intervention of internationally recognized teachers as the leading experts in the geriatric oncology\, students will be part of an international network. \nAt the end of this course participants will be able to perform a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment\, to deal with the therapeutic strategy of the main solid tumors and lymphomas in the elderly\, to evaluate risk factors for chemotherapy toxicity and to set up clinical trials in this age group. \nThe course aims are: \n1. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n  \nA Review of the last evidence in treating older patients with cancer\nA Discussion around your most challenging cases\nThe first SIOG USA Forum occurred on April 11\, 2015 at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa\, Florida.  The goal of the full day Scientific Program was to raise awareness of Geriatric Oncology in the United States and lay the groundwork for future programs. \nTopics included geriatric assessment and disease related topics including castrate resistant prostate cancer\, chronic lymphocytic leukemia\, non small cell lung cancer\, melanoma and multiple myeloma.  There were also discussion of cases presentations and various aspects of the complexity of decision making in older cancer patients.

DESCRIPTION:November 2-4\, 2006\nScheveningen\nThe Hague\, the Netherlands \nThe conference was a great success\, being attended by most European experts\, and many from North America and the rest of the world. Delegates came from everywhere\, indicating the worldwide importance of the question. \nThe meeting started with an original session on how to conduct clinical trials in elderly. Overall survival is a bad endpoint for this population\, and should be replaced by disease free survival. Genetics and physiology of aging were explained\, followed by a session on the use of targeted therapies in elderly cancer patients. There were also several sessions on specific tumour types presented by experts from various specialities\, surgery\, radiation oncology\, medical oncology and nursing. Several task forces from SIOG presented the first guidelines focusing on elderly cancer patients with topics ranging from geriatric assessment\, chemotherapy toxicity\, renal function\, approach to anaemia and neutropenia\, breast cancer and prostate cancer\, to gastrointestinal cancer.
