Journal of Geriatric Oncology (JGO)

New JGO Editor-in-Chief, Supriya Mohile

Dear SIOG community,

I am very happy to be taking up the role as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology.   I want to take this opportunity to first thank Dr. Arti Hurria.   During her time as Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Hurria has served the Journal with a very high commitment to quality and dedication to improving the literature published in Geriatric Oncology. Dr Hurria not only brought with her enthusiasm and expertise to the role as Editor but also established a strong team and committed time to training and developing the Associate Editor and Deputy Editor team.  The Journal of Geriatric Oncology would not exist without Dr. Hurria and I hope to continue to increase the prestige and impact of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology.

Since the launching of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology in 2010, the number of submissions per year has close to quadrupled.  The impact factor has increased from 1.118 in 2012 to 2.852 in 2016.  We have a strong partnership with SIOG with several SIOG guidelines published over the last several years.   In addition, a SIOG special issue highlights the research and education of the SIOG annual meeting.

Since starting in August, I have worked with the senior Editorial team to review current procedures and identify areas for improvement.   I will in the short term expand the group of dedicated Associate Editors working with me on the Journal.  In addition, we are in the process of reviewing and expanding the Editorial Board.

As the Journal of Geriatric Oncology has established its place in our community, the number of submissions to the Journal has increased.   We need to continue to grow and support our network of high quality reviewers who are committed to the Journal.   In addition, we hope to include reviewers who have a demonstrated a commitment to the Journal on the Editorial Board.   We hope that all SIOG members are willing to serve as  reviewers for the Journal of Geriatric Oncology and we hope that all Journal of Geriatric Oncology Editorial Board members and reviewers maintain their commitment to be members of SIOG.

I wanted to thank you all for your support of the Journal of Geriatric Oncology.   It has been a very busy year and submissions are at an all-time high.  We hope that you continue to consider the Journal of Geriatric Oncology as a mechanism for your own work.
